The long-term success of the dental implants is directly dependent by the amount and the quality of the surrounding tissues.

The first four modules of the year programme course are focused on the case analysis and planning, ideal implant positioning and how to obtain sufficient and stable peri implant bone and soft tissue in different clinical situations.

The most common reason in contemporary implant dentistry for bone volume increasing in the posterior maxilla is to prepare the site for future dental implant placement.

While the bone has its mechanisms of natural remodeling and resorption, topics covered in the previous modules, when a maxillary molar or premolar is lost, the sinus pneumatizes in this area which unfortunately additionally diminishes the volume of the underlying bone.

The aim of this module is to overview the anatomy and physiology of the maxillary sinus, to detail all the sinus floor elevation surgical techniques and approaches including the recommended biomaterials and to teach the step by step approach from bone reconstruction to implant loading depending on the clinical situation.

An important topic covered during this module will focus on prevention and complication management of the sinus lift surgical techniques and also the management of the preexisting sinus pathology.
